ABOUT LEISURE BAY
The KZN South Coast is a malaria free area. Winter temperatures rarely fall below 10°C and summers, although humid, rarely exceed 27°C R.
The leafy subtropical village of Leisure Bay with its year round sub tropical climate is located just north of Port Edward and offers a tranquil haven of un spoilt beauty with sparkling swimming beaches, sub tropical dune forests, sheltered bays and rocky promontories.
The clean, shark-netted beach has long stretches of white sand that caters for swimmers, sun seekers, surfers and fishermen.
Leisure Bay has some of the most picturesque beaches in Natal. The beachfront has three shark-protected beaches all of which are patrolled by lifeguards during school holiday periods.
Many artists live and work in the area.
Leisure Bay has an abundance of indigenous, subtropical vegetation and is renowned for frequent viewings of the tiny blue duiker, grey duiker, bushbuck and a large variety of birds.

Port Edward is close by, where you can find quaint shops, supermarkets, doctors, banks, restaurants; farm stalls and craft studios, etc.
Margate and Shelly Beach offer various large shopping malls.

Just a few kilometers inland from Port Edward is the Umtamvuma Nature Reserve. Here the visitor will find a nesting colony of Cape vultures among the high cliffs that run along the river hiking/biking trails.
Protea Banks diving excursions depart from Shelley Beach.
The Riverbend Croc Farm and Butterfly Farm are 20 minutes away Oribi Gorge for top class bungee jumping / abseiling.
SARDINE RUN.
In winter the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal experiences an eco phenomenon that is known as the Sardine Run. This happens when billions of sardines swim up the coast followed by large numbers of sharks, dolphins, sea birds and shoals of game fish.
When these sardines arrive there is a spectacular symphony of sea creatures, each one playing its part in the Sardine Run ocean extravaganza, from dolphins frolicking in the waves on the plunge-diving Caper gannets, this marine spectacle in the warm Ocean is a fascinating and unforgettable experience.
