ABOUT MARINA BEACH
The KZN South Coast is a malaria free area and enjoys a year round sub-tropical climate.
Winter temperatures rarely fall below 10°C and summers, although humid, rarely exceed 27°C.
The elite and quiet little village of Marina Beach is situated five kilometers to the south of Margate on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast on South Africa's east coast about 120 kilometers south of Durban and approximately seventy five minutes drive from Durban International Airport
Marina Beach is a long sweep of uninterrupted coastline, with a shark protected beaches a tidal pool, rocky bays with unspoiled dunes and areas of natural forest.
Marina Beach has been accredited with blue flag international status. The beach is protected by shark nets and is patrolled by lifeguard’s permanently.
Marina Beach retains a village atmosphere and the natural heritage has not given way to high-rise hotels and apartment blocks.
Grassy lawns amid lush green tropical vegetation adjoining the beach are equipped with braai facilities, and are a superb venue for an afternoon braai or picnic.
San lameer
The San Lameer Estate is located in Marina Beach and has direct access onto blue flag Marina Beach beach.
San Lameer is a 169 hectare nature conservancy, landscaped with 620 privately owned luxury villas surrounding the trying 18 hole, professional golf course, and a world class hotel.
Mariners Restaurant.
Mariners Restaurant is literally on the sands of the popular Marina Beach.
Marina beach is close to Southbroom, which offers several fine restaurants, tennis and bowls club.
Local shopping centres offer a pharmacy, hairdresser, pilates studio, coffee shop, beauty salon and a supermarket for everyday needs. More comprehensive shopping is provided by the nearby towns of Ramsgate, Margate and Shelly Beach with two large shopping malls.
The village of Marina Beach is close to Southbroom’s scenic 18 hole golf course.
The nearby Frederika Nature Reserve consisting of 8 hectares of mature, virgin dune forest is rated one of the finest examples of dune forest remaining in Natal.
SARDINE RUN
In winter the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal experiences an eco phenomenon that is known as the Sardine Run. This happens when billions of sardines swim up the coast followed by large numbers of sharks, dolphins, sea birds and shoals of game fish.
When these sardines arrive there is a spectacular symphony of sea creatures, each one playing its part in the Sardine Run ocean extravaganza, from dolphins frolicking in the waves on the plunge-diving Caper gannets, this marine spectacle in the warm Ocean is a fascinating and unforgettable experience. The frenzy of activity is a spectacular sight.
