ABOUT GLENMORE/MUNSTER.

Glenmore beach is tranquil and natural with long stretches of un spoilt beaches, lush vegetation, wild sea crashing on to boulders, and giant rocky outcrops.

This is an angling and a favorite venue for fishing competitions, surfers make this their local haunt. Bathing is safe as Glenmore beach is shark-protected and has permanent lifeguards on duty. Glenmore is also popular with sea kayakers.

Swimming - Glenmore beach is shark-protected and has permanent lifeguards on duty.

Snorkeling - During clear water conditions, the rocky pools are ideal for snorkeling and many exotic fish specimens can be sited in the rocky crevices and shallow pools.

Glenmore has an all year subtropical climate, however, from April to October the Bottle Nose and Common dolphin, as well as the Humpback and Southern Right Whales, frequent these waters.

SARDINE RUN

The annual Sardine Run, also brings a buzz of activity to Glenmore Beach.

In winter the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal experiences an eco phenomenon that is known as the Sardine Run. This happens when billions of sardines swim up the coast followed by large numbers of sharks, dolphins, sea birds and shoals of game fish.

When these sardines arrive there is a spectacular symphony of sea creatures, each one playing its part in the Sardine Run ocean extravaganza, from dolphins frolicking in the waves on the plunge-diving Caper gannets, this marine spectacle in the warm Ocean is a fascinating and unforgettable experience. The frenzy of activity is a spectacular sight.

Other attractions include The Nightingale shipwreck which ran aground on the rocks off Glenmore Beach in 1933. Part of the wreck, the boiler and cylinder, can still be seen on the rocks and is accessible at low tide. Interested visitors can still pick up pieces of porcelain or trader beads from the beach particularly after storms and high seas.
