ABOUT RAMSGATE

Ramsgate also derived its name from the original farm. One of its initial residents, a well-travelled and artistic Paul Buck, whiled away his time writing, painting, building violins and rearing tropical fish. Aptly enough he preferred calling the spot ‘Blue Lagoon’.

The village developed around the lagoon. Protected by off-shore nets and lifesavers in attendance seven days a week, beachgoers to Ramsgate are also protected when the wind blows from the north. The main beach also features a tidal pool known as the Noel Quarry Pool, a tranquil, reedy lagoon, change rooms, on-beach parking and a shady, grassed, sheltered area equipped with braai and picnic facilities. There are pleasure boats for hire.

Ramsgate is also home to the world renown Waffle House, established in 1957, this historical South Coast landmark is nestled in tranquil sub-tropical vegetation on the edge of the Ramsgate Lagoon.

A visit to The Waffle House is a unique experience. Not only can you enjoy their waffles, you can also enjoy browsing for art, pottery, crafts and curios at the Gaze Gallery or in the Basket Shop. They welcome families and there is a well-equipped play area where children can play.

You can finish your visit with a leisurely a walk across the quaint wooden bridge (Photo) to the beautiful Ramsgate beach for a swim or a laze on the sand.
